The Cottage is a former winery, and is located in the village of Mortagne itself, on the Gironde estuary. It has a quaint, unspoilt fishing port and marina, and traditional bars and delicious restaurants beside the water. For nature lovers, there are walks through the salt marshes to the estuary, where you can admire the birdlife, and perhaps spot an otter. It is a magical place.
Nearby you have sandy beaches 15 minutes away in Meschers or Royan. The surrounding valleys are green with the vineyards for growing cognac and pineau. And while we're on the subject of gastronomy, Mortagne is famous for its seafood, and locally reared lamb.
It's stone's throw from the historic town of Saintes, or the thermal baths of Jonzac, and an hour from the wonderful city of Bordeaux. It's the perfect base for your holiday.
